Destoyed School Buildings - Peru Earthquake, June 2001Summary:
The past 23 of June 2,001, the South of Peru suffered an earthquake of great proportions, which destroyed great part of the civil infrastructure, affecting of immediate way the form of life for almost all of the inhabitants of this territory. This earthquake, reached its maxim intensity (8.4º) in grounds of Moqueguanos, as a consequence it left death and destruction, difficult to surpass and to forget. The education sector was destroyed or seriously, it left useless 50% of it’s installed capacity, which affects DIRECTLY to at least 30,000 children throughout the region. Day 22 of Julio, representatives of the Lions Club of Moquegua and Tacna were informed of the impossibility that they had to initiate the scholastic workings, for the previous reasons. They ask for the Clubs of Lions at world-wide level to supports to them in the acquisition of 82 prefabricated Classrooms, to be able to reinitiate the scholastic workings as rapidly as possible, being the total necessity of 460 classrooms. The cost of each Classroom is of 4.000 $.

Building ProjectDescription:
Many children have not only been affected psychically by the earthquake, but that also tens of thousands of students of Arequipa, Ayacucho, Moquegua and Tacna at the moment cannot study because their educative centres have been destroyed by the strong earthquake of past 23 of June. The authorities of each region indicated that more than two thousand classrooms they have been damaged seriously in his structures and almost 75 thousand students had their classrooms destroyed or made unusable. Only in Tacna, of a total of 2,896 existing classrooms, it has been confirmed that classrooms have felled 480, which means that more than 19,000 students are affected, in special in the Andean zones. Similar is the panorama in Moquegua, there is a report sent by the Regional Subdivision notifying that there are 316 destroyed classrooms and other 211 must be repaired. Which means that more than 21,000 students have no were to study. In Arequipa the total of affected classrooms is of 1,021, which has left without scholastic roof almost 41,000 students.
The local Moquegua and Tacna Lions Clubs co-sponsors of the project must commit themselves to the following points:

·         To make sure that the schools are installed and that are functioning is fastest as possible.

·         Will be the supervisors of the construction of the classrooms.

·         The commission in charged to obtain support is integrated by the President of the Council of Governors, a PDG of the zone of the disaster, PID Jose Brigneti and PID Oscar Elejalde.

·         Before LCIF the Lions in charged are both Passed International Directors previously mentioned.

The total investment for the School unites would be:

The total cost is of 4,000 $, already installed. These units would be made in Lima, creating wealth and work for the inhabitants of Peru.

Objective:
To be able to re-establish these scholastic units so that the young people of this zone, devastated by the earthquake, must be able to start their studies as soon as possible, which is probably the only form to leave behind this un-development zone of the world.
