You
might still remember that more than a year ago, the Venezuelan people
suffered a terrible floods and earth sliding, that produced more than
150,000 homeless and more than 30,000 missing people. At this moment the
Lions made a campaign of recollecting funds for Venezuela in Spain. Also
other countries like Sweden and Island have made important donations to
LCIF, as designated funds for Venezuela. The Lions from Venezuela
presentation of a very ambitious project, of building a Lions village of
1.00 houses for the homeless to the Foundation. I

Description:
MEMORIZING
 The
Council of Governors of Multiple District “E”, that it includes
Venezuela, Aruba, Bonaire and Curazao, was conscious that our institution
must coordinate the campaign of Aid to the Damaged ones of the catastrophe
of Venezuela.
It approved to coordinate the donations of funds that have been received
from the Lions Clubs and member Lions from different parts of the world,
from the very moment the catastrophe was know. It has affected several
states of the Country, in the month of December of 1,999, product of the
torrential rains that brought serious floods and sliding of earth, that
threw more than 150,000 homeless and more than 30.000 disappeared.
The Council of Governors decided to launch a campaign for the construction
of 1,000 houses for the families that have lost everything by this
catastrophe, even in many cases close family. In the same month of
December of 1,999 they officially directed to correspondence to directors
of Lions Club International Foundation, informing about the situation,
that was happening in the Country and asking to open a disaster relief
account at the Foundation.
It was denominated “Solidaridad con Venezuela”, where the
contributions were being deposited, from our fellow lions and friends
worldwide. Later in the month of January of the 2,000, during the Folac
Panama, it was informed to the President of our Association, at that time
was James Ervín, and to all the convention, that this was a very
ambitious and long range planing project, with an approximated value of
five million dollars (U.S. $ 5,000,000.00), since the cost of each house
of 57,04 M2, constructed on a 155M2 land plot, is of five thousand dollars
(US.$ 5,000,00) each one.
Many meetings have been made before different organisms from the official
sector in Venezuela that have under their responsibility the construction
of urbanism and houses. They are the Institute of Social Development of
the Interior of State of Zulia (IDES), Infrastructure Ministry (MINFRA),
National Funds of Urban Development (FONDUR), National Institute of the
Housing (INAVI), Main directorate Sectorial de Malariología and
Environmental Sanitary or Program of Rural House, among others. And at the
present moments, that is to say, January of the 2001, we have offered
lands of several Governors of States and Mayors that have shown their
disposition to donate such for the development of this Project in a
immediate way.
RESOURCES
As far as the resources obtained until now, in the existing account in
LCIF "Venezuelan Flood Relief #5034", there is an
availability of 62,661.60 USA Dollars and in the Banking account of the
Council of Governors of Multiple District “E”, they are deposited but
of 10,000,000 of Bolivars (about 15,000 $).
REQUEST OF SUBVENTION and SPECIAL
MOTIVATION
At
the moment, Multiple District “E”, has presented a project for request
for a Regular Grant to LCIF, and also has been presented in the FOLAC Peru
2,001. But an additional contribution is needed from all the Lions Clubs
and members of the world, as well as of all the companies and friends of
the Lions at international level, to be able to make a reality as a medium
and long term project. As a special motivation, the Council of Governors,
has established that the Lions Clubs or the companies or friends of the
Lions that finance the construction of at least one (1) house, the house
will have the name of the Club or company. And the countries which have
contribute the value of at least twelve (12) houses, the street where they
are constructed on, will have the name of this country.
HOW CAN YOU COLLABORATE
If
you wish to make a contribution, by minimum that seems, for us it is very
important and victims of the catastrophe of Venezuela will thank you for
it eternally. You can directly send your contribution to the account Nº
5034 of Lions Club International Foundation, or send check in USA Dollars
to name of LCIF. In any of the cases you must send to LCIF a note that
explains that the money is for being credited in the Account “Solidarity
with Venezuela, (Venezuelan Flood
Relief Nº5034), as well as your name, Club to which you belong, city
and country of residence, telephones and electronic direction. In name of
the victims of Venezuela. “Thank you very much by the contribution and
solidarity. We want to take advantage of the opportunity, to express in
name of the Leonism of Multiple District “E”, the most sincere words
of gratefulness to the Lions members and Lions Clubs of several Countries
of the World, that already have sent money, among them is Sweden, Spain,
Argentina, Italy, Israel, England, Aruba, Bonaire and Curazao. End

Objective:
As
you can see the Venezuelan Lions, with the support of our Foundation has
made a very serious bet in presenting a prestigious projects of great
magnitude and therefore for our Association. This is one of the objectives
of the Euro Latin-American Committee, where through the contribution of
the Lions of Europe and through LCIF we can canalize the economical
recollecting effort of funds from the Lions. Avoiding that other
institutions or associations get the credit of our effort. This way it’s
the Lions of the country that has undergone the tragedy, is which has the
honor of being recognized by its fellow citizens, therefore they are the
ones that receive the merit and prestige of the work done. |
